Matt Koval Intro to Pol Theory Final Paper 22 July 2016 Question 2: Political Communities During this course, we took a look at and learned about different political theories, aspects, thinkers, and philosophers. A lot of our government and politics today have come from the ideas and topics we learned about this summer. Some of the topics and ideas we learned about closely during this course include, social contract, state of nature, political communities, and justice. I can honestly say that I enjoyed learning more about all of the topics we covered this summer. However, there was one topic in particular that really stood out to me and I enjoyed learning about the most. That topic is political communities: what they are, what it takes for someone to join them, its relationship with the sovereign, and the rights of citizens in a political community. Throughout the course, there were a number of films, thinkers, and their readings that discussed political communities. From what we have learned in this course my understanding of political communities is that they are a community formed by a group of people who have all agreed to give up their individual rights that they naturally have for the good of the community as a whole. This can be attributed to the myriad factors that hinder the Indian Industrial sector. On a closer introspection, there are major reasons in the country which holds back the Indian Economy. Firstly, India lacks the optimum prerequisite for the growth of Industrial Sector i.e Infrastructure. India is lagging in terms of infrastructure and more private players and public-private partnership should be encouraged to bring about the change. One such example is Jamshedpur built by TATA. It shows that the problems are able to overcome with proper policy changes. Secondly, power poses the next hindrance for the Industrial Sector. Affirmative actions are policies that are placed to engage in the improvement of underprivileged groups who either currently suffer or have historically suffered from discrimination and equality of opportunity. During our lecture, Dr. Kallfelz stated that affirmative action is a, â€Å"Proactive policy with primary immediate attempt to reform (and long term attempt to prevent and deter) socioeconomically discriminatory practices.† This implies that moral equals should be treated equally. Affirmative action is the outcome of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, intended to provide equal opportunities to women and minority groups in education and employment. Therefore, companies use affirmative action to secure equality throughout the organization. The policy is broken down into two categories: strong affirmative action (SAA) and weak affirmative action (WAA). Society looks at strong affirmative action is on the legal aspect of affirmative action. An example would be some type of written, legal policy or procedures that are put in place to report inequality. On the other hand, weak affirmative action is more social. The film is about a man named Derek who serves three-years in prison for murdering two African-American gang members who broke into his truck. Derek’s younger brother, Danny, tells the story of how Derek became this hateful, racist person through various flashback throughout the story. Danny and Derek’s father was killed by an African-American while fighting a fire.
